MERDEKA - KERANAMU MALAYSIA

Today we celebrate our country's 48th year of Independence. Got up this morning in the Merdeka spirit and drove up to Putrajaya, the Nation's Capital where the celebrations were held.

Crossed this bridge into Putrajaya and wondered where is the action?

Mum the Parade is out there somewhere, what are we doing here?

Finally we are here, the parade is over but lets sing along -
Keranamu Malaysia, Negaraku, Jalur Gemilang, Budi Bahasa Budaya Kita & ABC

Mum, we are wearing the wrong colours, its red and yellow!

Is that a bird? Superman? No, our RMAF boys paying tribute to King and Country.

MALAYSIAN NATIONAL DAY

The Nation celebrates its 48th Independence Day this 31st of August 2005.
I saw this bust of the
Tunku at the Royal Selangor Pewter Factory at thought that I should paste this image on my blog.

How many of us remember our first Prime Minister raising his hand shouting the words MERDEKA (Freedom) 7 times, freeing us from the hands of the British Rule.
The other pictures I want to place in my blog, during this time, are that of the UNKNOWN SOLDIERS that sacrificed their lives so that we may enjoy this FREEDOM that we take it for granted.

The many wars: 1914 - 1918 World War 1, 1939 - 1944 World War 2 and the 1948 - 1960 Confrontation (Emergency) in Malaya should remind us that wars can be deadly & long. Looking at the world at large one can see the numerous sufferings of its people from wars or from natural tredigies. PEACE IS PRICELESS, TREAT IT WELL.
We must say a silent prayer that Malaysia is blessed and that we can still live in harmony with our fellow men may they be of the other race.

Sri Paandi War Hots Up

Today we were sending our elder daughter back to University Malaya after her weekend break. On our return journey passed by Section 11, P. Jaya to see the 2 X Sri Paandi outlets that have been in the news of late, with the problems of who owns the franchise name of "SRI PAANDI"
A number of their workers were stationed outside the shops, calling out to customers to come to their joint. It was mentioned that the workers provide excellent service, providing umbrellas and escorting patrons to their respective outlets during rain.

How can this be happening, I presume as profits rise, greed takes over and all previous arrangements/agreement are thrown down the drain.

We Indians have become the laughing stock of the Town, with captions of "Curry Feud" and Masalla vs. Masalla and what other remarks we have to stomach. While the other races can work amicably we Indians are like crabs in a basket. When one tries to climb out of the basket, the others pull it down, thereby no one gains freedom.

When are we going to learn? Grow up guys; time is too short for fighting. LIVE AND LET LIVE.

Hailstorm at SS14 Subang Jaya

Wednesday around 5.00pm the distant thunder growled the quiet evening. I was home alone as my wife went visiting her Kota Damansara SHailstorm at SS14 Subang Jaya

Wednesday around 5.00pm the distant thunder growled the quiet evening. I was home alone as my wife went visiting her Kota Damansara Sis-in law at Subang Jaya Medical Centre who underwent an appendix removal operation. As there were clothes on the line, I thought it best to have them removed in case of rain.

As I was removing the clothes small drops of rain started to fall. I was lucky to remove the clothes and was back to my computer when I heard loud thudding sounds on the awnings.

I thought the rain droplets were pretty heavy to cause all the noise when my eye caught the actual event happening. 1/2 inch balls of ice were falling from the heavens. For approximately 10 minutes it rained ice balls. They were all over my front and back porch, and all over the neighbourhood.

1/2 inch hail stones (ice balls) on the floor mat.

I called my son at Cyberjaya to ask if it was also happening there. He mentioned that it was hazy and dry there, but did ask me if I took some pictures of the event. I did not have the presence of mind at that time, but rushed to get our Digital Camera. By the time I got the camera out, the ice droplets had stopped and rain was falling fairly heavy. I did manage to capture the remnants of the ice balls that were in some flowerpots, under the flower stand, around our dustbin and on the front porch corner of my house.

Hail (iceballs) around the dustbin and under the flower stand.

That evening I had to fetch my daughter from school and did ask her if she saw the hailstorm. Yes she replied and that some of the ice balls flew into her classroom. They picked it up and found it ice cold. She also told me that the science lab analysed the ice balls and found it to be acidic (the ice balls must have collected all the haze particles and acid in the air).

Ice balls inside flower pots and towards the wall.

On my drive back home, I saw a number of fallen branches and leaves, on most of the road around SS14 Subang Jaya, caused by the hailstorm.

Though the hailstorm was exciting it did not clear the haze.

Yesterday the Government declared Port Klang and Kuala Selangor "Haze Emergency" with API readings of 529 and 531 respectively.

Flower pot filled with the ice balls.

The afternoon school in SMK Subang Jaya was declared closed on Thursday around 3pm and will remain closed on Friday.

We don't know if Monday will bring more haze or clearer skies, we will have to wait and see.

Read this quote and thought that it was a good one, so have decided to share it.

"I am only one, but still I am one.
I cannot do everything, but still I can do something,
and because I cannot do everything,
I will not refuse to do something I can do"
By EE Hale.

Trying to analyse the above in this smog filled environment, my mind is all "blogged" up.
So people out there do something if you can.

The weather has not been kind to folks in the Klang Valley. The burning in Sumatra of trees/etc and also the peat that is burning around Cyberjaya is casing folks like us to suffer from this dreadful haze.

The cough and flu cases have increased and the only happy persons are the Doctors and Pharmacist.

By the way I am under the weather and my mind is all bogged up.
