Lord Murugan guards Batu caves.
Batu Caves officially got the Minister Samy Velu to Officially declare open the 140feet statue of Lord Murugan which was erected beside the steps leading to the Caves on the 29th Jan 2006.
The ocassion was held on a grand scale, with songs rendered by singers from India and local artists, a helicopeter dropping flowers on the statue and a final display of fireworks. Later after the event was over at 8pm, the event continued with a stage show by local artists.
We (wife and two daughters) were there on hand to see witness the ocassion and eventhough the event took 4 hours, up to the fireworks, it was an event not to be missed.

Understand the Temple Officails are trying to get it recorded in the Malaysian Book of Records, that this being the tallest Murugan statue in South East Asia.

The other large statue at Batu Caves is the statue of Hanamun, The Monkey God that helped Lord Rama in the Ramayana Epic.
